Climate of the region is considered transitional from maritime to temperate continental, which results in rather variable climatic conditions and picturesqueness of the local nature. Residents of the city have a local joke: “If you don't like our weather, just wait for 15 minutes.”

Summer Kaliningrad is warm, but not hot. The average air temperature is 22° С with rare heat peaks of up to 26–30° С.

The ideal time for holidays on the beaches is from July to August, as this is when the water warms up to 22° С.

Seaside vacation is available at the beaches of the Kurshskaya Kosa and Baltiyskaya Kosa (Curonian and Vistula Spits), Zelenogradsk, Svetlogorsk, Yantarny, Pionersky, and Baltiysk. Each seashore features its own specifics, thus, tourists will find an ideal option for themselves. There are all amenities for comfortable recreation at the seashore, in particular, for differently abled people. Many resorts are famous for their clean sand and water.

Please note, that in the Kaliningrad Region, there are areas that are restricted for foreign citizens, and the access there is either allowed only subject to availability of a permit or completely prohibited.

THE KURSHSKAYA KOSA (The Curonian Spit). 

Spacious beaches of the Kurshskaya Kosa are perfect for comfortable sea recreation. You may find spots for complete privacy or choose a place among other vacationers instead.
There are plenty of must-visit attractions around: the mysterious Dancing Forest, the oldest ornithological station, as well as the Korolevsky Bor and Vysota Efa ecological trails.

It is recommended to go to the Kurshskaya Kosa by car or by bicycle, as well as along with a group of tourists.

ZELENOGRADSK

Beaches of the town of Zelenogradsk are famous for so-called griddles, i.e. places that are protected from the wind from all the sides. The griddles are heated pretty well, which makes it possible to take sun baths there even in spring. The advantages of Zelenogradsk beaches are the even seabed and the gradually increasing depth, which ensures safety for vacationers with children.

The town is proud of its widest and longest promenade on the entire Baltic coast. Vacationers consider this area to be the best spot for landscape photography of magnificent local sunsets.

Zelenogradsk is the town of cats. Here you will find plenty of feline images: graffiti, sculptures, mosaics. Take a stroll along the Kurortny Avenue amidst the architecture the early 20th century, have a delicious lunch at one of the restaurants while enjoying the view of the sea, check out the Murarium Cat Museum or the Beach Fashion Museum. "Gnezdo" beach area and cafe is a popular spot, where you can try fish cooked on the open fire. Koenigsberg Museum of Architecture and History is located nearby. The museum features interactive models of old Koenigsberg: the Royal Castle, the Kneiphof Island, the reconstruction of the Koenigsberg attack in 1945, the Kranz Resort, etc. Also you can try bicycle path from Curonian spit to Svetlogorsk.

YANTARNY

Wide beaches of the Yantarny Settlement are recognized with Blue Flag Certificate. This environmental certificate confirms compliance with all the quality and safety standards: ecologically clean seawater and coast, as well as availability of infrastructure at the beach.

Another spot for recreation is the Sinyavinskoe Lake that was formed in an old amber quarry. The lake was prepared and made suitable for comfortable recreation of adults and children. There is a camping site, a sailing club, and the one and only Russian underwater park. The flooded forest located here attracts divers and those fond of SUP walks. 

Places to see:
  • The Amber Factory. The Amber Chamber interactive exhibition hall is open for visitors. The exhibition includes the best samples of amber produced, exquisite items made of it, interesting photos, as well as documents on the enterprise history. You can visit the viewpoint of the Primorsky Quarry to see with your own eyes how they produce amber on a commercial scale, and don't miss the Dinosaur Park on your way there. In addition, it is worth it to visit the Master's Square at Yantarny, where you can purchase some attractive souvenirs. 
  • The Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan in the building of Palmnicken Church. 
  • Moritz Becker Park is a perfect place for walks and recreation during any season.

SVETLOGORSK

The town buildings are located amongst pine trees, and the air is infused with the smell of pine needles together with the fresh sea breeze. Here, weather forecasters record the highest number of sunny days in the entire Baltic Region. In 2024, in Svetlogorsk shore protection works are ongoing, so the town can't provide any beach recreation facilities. However, in 2025-2026, the reconstructed promenade and the apartment complex will be presented.

There is a balneotherapeutic resort with healing mineral waters and mud in the town. At the promenade, next to the panoramic elevator, there is a public mineral water pump, where you can take water with healing properties for free. Other attractions include Makarov Organ Hall located in the building of a former Catholic chapel of the last century. In the hall, there is an organ made to order by masters of the famous German Hugo Mayer Company. The "Wheel of History" Private Museum dedicated to the town’s history, featuring multiple authentic household items of the East Prussian times is of interest. Tikhoe Lake is a popular walking spot, around which you will find cute little sculptures of hedgehogs that are the elements of a children's quest.

Baltiysk

Please note that foreign citizens have to obtain a special permit to visit Baltiysk!

In Baltiysk, one can walk around the town and explore the following attractions: Pillau Lighthouse, the monument to Peter the Great, the equestrian monument to Elizabeth, Pillau Citadel (foreign citizens are only allowed to see the citadel from outside).

Many tourists try to attend Baltiysk during celebration of the Navy Day. Please note that one should book accommodation for these dates well in advance, and the same applies to the special permits.

Beaches of Baltiysk are sandy and wide with all necessary infrastructure available.
