Monument to Townsmen Cosmonauts
The original name of the monument is: To the Conquerors of the Nearby Universe
Monument by sculptor Boris Edunov was unweiled in April 1980.
The monument is dedicated to cosmonauts Alexei Leonov, Viktor Patsayev, Yuri Romanenko and Aleksandr Viktorenko, who lived in the Kaliningrad region. Each townsman cosmonaut has a bronze plaque with a bas-relief-profile of the hero, installed on the verge of the pedestal. On a pedestal inside the symbolic space orbit, there is a bronze sculpture of the cosmos conqueror. The inscription around the space orbit quotes: " Mankind will not forever remain on Earth but, in the pursuit of light and space, will first timidly emerge from the bounds of the atmosphere and then advance until he has conquered the whole of circumsolar space. K.E. Tsiolkovsky."
The cobblestone paved square in front of the monument is often used for events. Within the the City Day of Kaliningrad, a stage is set up here, and during the festival of short films "In Short" a photo zone is open.- Prospect Mira, at the intersection with Leonova St.,
