The first bridge in this place appeared in 1542, when Duke Albert gave the citizens of Kneiphoft a permission to build a bridge over the Pregolya River. The bridge received its name later, allegedly due to the fact the angry Altstadt people called the inhabitants of Kneiphof as 'honey-licking', as it was believed that oberburggrаf Bezenrade bribed members of the City Council of Kneiphof barrels with honey.
Honey Bridge is one of the most popular tourist destinations.
