The theater, built in 1912 by the order of German public figure M. Klein, was called the "New Louise Theater" and was a private stage. It was designed for comedies and dramas, in contrast to the city's opera house. After Perestroika in 1992, it became known as "Comedic Opera." In 1937, the theater underwent renovation, and its architectural style and design changed like its performers. In the 50s, it was renovated again under the direction of Moscow's Giprotheater. Today, the Kaliningrad Regional Drama Theater operates in a historical building. Its repertoire includes drama, comedy, tragedy, and children's performances, including "Lord Fauntleroy." In 2006, the theater won the National Award for Children's Theatre Art, Harlequin, in four categories, and festivals and competitions are held there.
