Kaliningrad Regional Musical Theater
In the building of the former television center, work on repair and restoration began to boil. Then a set was announced in the drama studio and young talented studio students released their very first and painfully aching performance, built on sketches, “The City of Our Youth” about the first settlers in the Kaliningrad region. With the opening of the course of the Russian Academy of Theater Art, the first performances for children and serious large performances in Russian and foreign classics appeared.
The artistic director of the first recruitment to the Russian Academy of Theater Arts (GITIS) was a wonderful teacher, director, student of Maria Iosifovna Knebel, People's Artist of Russia, Professor Leonid Yefimovich Kheyfets. The first issue of the Kaliningrad branch of the RATI was the backbone of the troupe of the Musical Theater, formed on the initiative of the Administration of the region. The theater opened on December 21, 2001 with the production of Johann Strauss's operetta The Bat. It was the first performance of a joint project of the Kaliningrad Regional Musical Theater and the Moscow Musical Theater "Helikon-Opera". The main director of this project was Dmitry Bertman, People’s Artist of Russia, repeated laureate of the Golden Mask national theater prize. A feature of this project is that both Kaliningrad and Moscow artists are involved in the performances. For more than a decade of existence, within the framework of a joint project, such opera masterpieces as “The Tsar's Bride” by N. Rimsky-Korsakov, “Eugene Onegin” by P.I. Tchaikovsky, "Carmen" J. Bizet and others. The sparkling operetta “The Bat” by I. Strauss and “The Princess of the Circus” by I. Kalman conquered the Kaliningrad audience, and the opera-jazz show “Gershwin-gala” and the performance-concert of Russian songs “Kalinka-show” showed how they can sound in new ways familiar music.
But not only operas, operettas and shows attract viewers to the Musical Theater. Dramatic productions also delight with their diversity - Lysistrata by Aristophanes, The Cherry Orchard by A. Chekhov, The Marriage of Figaro by P. O. Beaumarchais, Life is Beautiful by N. Erdman, The Royal Games by G. Gorin - this is not all list of drama productions, and all this is also our musical theater! The repertoire for children is also very diverse - wonderful musical tales, merry New Year performances bring joy and kindness to the hearts of our little viewers.
Thanks to its versatility, professionalism and talent, in 2010 the International Academy of Culture and Art recognized the theater as the “National Treasure of Russia”.
