He was famous for the rich art collections of paintings by European masters, collections of silver and porcelain, and rich archaeological collections. Within its walls, the famous Amber Room, the mysterious disappearance of which still haunts treasure hunter, last appeared in public. For many centuries, the favorite place of cheerful companies, students and travelers was located in the basements of the castle restaurant Blutgericht (Bloody Court). The castle was badly damaged during the bombing of the Second World War, and in 1968-1969 its ruins were blown up and dismantled. Nowadays, an observation deck of the Royal Castle archeological excavations of the Kaliningrad Regional Museum of History and Art has been equipped in its place for visitors, an exposition has been created, interesting finds have been exhibited. There are also discussions with citizens about the possible restoration of Royal Castle.
